| About Kristin Johnston, Allergy Mama and Founder: |
| When her toddler son was diagnosed with life-threatening allergies to egg, milk, peanuts, tree nuts and garlic, Kristin Johnston began the daunting task of food allergy research in hopes of providing for him a safe and healthy home environment. Months of research fueled her desire to make the task of food-allergy research less daunting for other Allergy Mamas. She founded AllergyMama.com, a website which seeks to connect the parents and caregivers of food allergic children to the resources they need to manage allergic households. A designer by trade, Kristin quickly recognized the need for stylish products designed for allergic living. With the belief that Allergy Mamas needn't sacrifice style for the sake of utility, she developed bags designed to offer easy access to allergy and asthma medications. These products offer Allergy Mamas more stylish options when carrying any important items, and encourage teens to keep their medications and other important items in an easily accessible and recognizable place. In April 2007, she launched her product line at AllergyMama.com Originally from Rochester, New York, Kristin grew up in Michigan and attended Western Michigan University. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance, and became a costume designer for WMU's Department of Dance as well as other dance and theatre companies around West Michigan. She attended graduate school at the University of Kentucky's Theatre Department, and designed costumes for Lexington Children's Theatre. Before the birth of her son, Kristin designed custom window treatments and was a commercial window treatment contractor for various hospitals, schools, and businesses around West Michigan. In addition to her design experience, Kristin has been a tailor for the Marshal Field's Corporation, a dance studio director, and a direct care supervisor at a juvenile home. Kristin enjoys writing and being at home with her children, who share her love of books, music and dance. She lives in Southern California. |
